Why Olive Oil?

With the goal to bring competitive, yet affordable quality skincare products to the market, Ellier jumped at the chance to do so, bringing along their secret weapon – Olive Oil. Avoiding the fads that plague the skincare market, olive oil with its potent antioxidant properties has already stood the test of time.

A common household item, Olive Oil is well known for it’s Mediterranean background, an important part of the population’s diet, which is considered a major factor in preserving a healthy & relatively disease-free population. High consumption of olive oils which are particularly high in phenolic antioxidants are considered to offer protection against cancer, heart disease and ageing by inhibiting oxidative stress (1). That’s on the inside, what about on the outside?

Olive oil contains three major antioxidants, which are vitamin E, polyphenols & phytosterois (2). These protect the skin from premature ageing and restores skin moisture whilst protecting from ultraviolet light. Not convinced yet? See the benefits below:

  1. Protective barrier. Prevents free-radical damage & minimizes the appearance of premature skin aging. Hydroxytyrosol, a rare compound found in olive oil assists with this, alongside vitamin E.

  2. Assists in clearing pores. In comparison to commercial moisturisers that can clog pores and exacerbate current skin conditions, olive oil is anti-allergenic and penetrates deep into the skin while providing a cleansing effect. Olive oil has often been used as a make up remover for this exact reason.

  3. Hypoallergenic. Olive oil is also hypoallergenic which allows for safe and gentle use for even the most sensitive skin.

  4. Anti-aging. With olive oils' unique blend of antioxidants, it works to block free radicals from the body which play a large part in the aging process, i.e reduce wrinkles and keep the skin youthful-looking. The anti-inflammatory properties also encourage the healing of wounds.

  5. Photo-protection. Vitamin E offers photo-protection, which plays an important role in preventing UV-induced damage to the skin.

  6. Promote skin flexibility and elasticity. Back to those trusty antioxidants, olive oils promote tone skin and can assist with those pesky stretch marks.

Best of all? It’s natural! Ellier Olive Oil moisturiser also has added Vitamin E alongside Sweet Almond Oil & allows for deeper hydration & firmer skin. Ellier contains NO PEGs, Parabens, Synthetic Colours or Fragrances, Sulphates or Silicones.
